Jury The selection comitee and the Jury for the Ex-libris Hilandar competition was composed of: BENOÎT JUNOD, Swiss ex-libris collector and curator of several international cultural events in the field of visual arts and ex-libris CASLAV OCIC, economist, ex-libris collector and President of the Belgrade Ex-libris Circle deacon NENAD ILIC, Editor-in-Chief of the orthodox magazine Iskon, RASTKO CIRIC, graphic artist, professor of Illustration at the Faculty of Applied Arts, University of Arts, Belgrade and Secretary General of the Belgrade Ex-libris Circle and MICHAEL MITCHELL, typographer and editor from Great Britain. |
The Jury met in Belgrade on the 11th of December 1998, and examined works of 104 artist from 15 countries - 222 ex-libris in total, of which 69 from Yugoslavia (49 from Belgrade) and 35 from abroad. The work of 15 artists had to be set aside, as they either were not linked to the theme, or were artistically weak. The exhibition and catalogue thus contain ex-libris of 89 artists from 13 countries. The Jury also decided that apart from the three official awards, works by 12 artists which were retained in the last phase of selection should awarded a special mention and illustrated at the front ofthe catalogue. Two artists were also highlighted - the oldest participant (86 years old) and the youngest (10). The Jury considered that all ex-libris with the inscription "Ex-libris Hilandar", without the name of any owner, were dedicated to the Monastery Library. |
